‘I feel like I’ve done this before but I probably haven’t’ tells the story of insignificant connections, the passage of time, and how we document the everyday.
I’m inspired by the mundane, the forgettable, and the aspects of life that people don’t realise they’ve been a part of. These moments are documented through the photos on our phones, hastily half-asleep thoughts typed into the notes app at 4am, and well curated playlists of songs. Many of us carry around these mini digital archives that offer new perspectives into the way we each individually navigate the world.
One unimportant mark on a wall that is passed daily and preserved through a phone camera, is enough to spark an idea and for my art to begin forming. The everyday is brought into my work through repetition, whether that’s repetitively scanned objects that are used to create vibrant patterns, or repeated shapes and motifs that find themselves reused in different pieces. I am interested in the subtle communication between flat imagery and three-dimensional objects. My image based work is taken into soft sculpture, and vice versa, creating an exhibition that can be navigated as a cohesive collection, or as individual pieces one-by-one.
The initial mundane inspiration becomes unrecognisable, transformed into vivid pieces of art that take on new novel appearances.
